Most households nowadays has multiple remotes. I used to have 6 remotes just for the devices that plugged into the home theater system. Most of us have wished for a universal remote that will do the job of all the remotes so that we can get rid of the clutter, confusion and lost remotes that often goes with a simple task like watching a movie. The Harmony One Universal Remote has a very sleek and ergonomic design and is very light and comfortable in your hands. I love the colorful main screen on the remote. You can use the screen as a touch screen for your buttons or use the regular buttons. There is a handy option to save battery power where the remote goes to sleep when it is not used and comes back on when you pick up the remote. The battery life on this is phenomenal and comes with a great recharging base station to charge the batteries again so that the remote is constantly charged. The button are back lit so that you can find the right one even in the dark.
The software for this remote can be loaded onto a PC or Laptop and the remote can be connected via the USB cable provided. This is very handy to setup the remote and all the activities and devices you want to use with this remote.
An example of an activity would be – Watch TV. When you click the touch screen button for this the TV, Tivo, cable box, surround speakers, DVD or whatever else you want to use for this activity can be set to turn on and sound levels can be preset to come on at your preferred levels. So every thing you want to do with that particular activity can be done with the push of one button.
Setting up this Harmony One remote initially takes some time but once it is all done and then uploaded on to the remote via the USB connection life becomes very easy and the remote proves to be very very useful. You will wonder how you managed to cope with out this remote. Almost everything on this remote is completely customizable and this can be done at the initial setup to make life much easier for you. You can add or delete buttons, rename buttons, setup specific tasks etc etc.
Please be aware that this remote will work with almost all devices that use Infra Red. This will not work with devices such as the PS3 that use blue-tooth. There is an optional adapter available that will enable it to work with the PS3.
For it to work great you need to spend about 1 hour at the beginning setting it up properly. If you take the time to do that there is no other remote that is better than this. The best way to do this is to make a note of all the devices you want to use with the Harmony One. Then select the device type, make and model in the software, and the remote will take care of the rest (the online data base has over 200,000 devices listed and is updated daily). Then you have to setup the activities as detailed above into the device.
I believe that this is one of the best remotes that logitech has brought out.
